Medify

We chose Java for the backend because Medify needed a platform that could serve a lot of users and services reliably, with the security that handling health and safety data demands. Java's mature ecosystem gave us a dependable foundation to build the various services on.

For the front end we used React, which suits interfaces where users move through complex tasks and expect the screen to respond as they go. On top of React we used the Ant Design system, which gave us a consistent set of components and a clean, professional look without building every element from scratch. The result is a platform that HR departments, doctors and practitioners can each use for their own work, with an interface that stays readable even when the underlying process is complicated.

Two features needed real care. The first was a drag-and-drop interface for managing risk assessments, which are involved processes with a lot of moving parts. React's component-based structure let us build this so people could arrange and adjust an assessment directly, rather than working through long forms.

The second was a calendar-based scheduling system for HR teams and on-call medical practitioners to manage their time. This is where the front end and backend had to work closely together. We used React to keep the calendar responsive as users made changes, and Java to handle the scheduling logic and keep everyone's view consistent behind it. Together they gave Medify a scheduling tool that's capable without being fiddly to use, which is what a busy HR team or an on-call doctor actually needs.
